About Us
Our Founder's Story
Fatou has spent her career in healthcare watching the moment that breaks most families’ hearts: discharge day. After days or weeks in a hospital, a patient is handed a folder of instructions, pointed toward the door, and sent home — often to a family that is overwhelmed, under-resourced, and frightened. The skilled, compassionate support that could bridge that gap between hospital and true recovery was simply not there for too many people in Columbus.
Fatou saw this gap clearly. And she chose not to simply observe it. Drawing on years of clinical experience and a deep personal commitment to her community, she founded Novela Home Health with a mission to bring expert, dignified, culturally responsive home health care to every neighborhood in Columbus — from the immigrant households of the Hilltop to the growing families of Westerville, from seniors in Gahanna to individuals with developmental disabilities living independently across Franklin County.
The name “Novela” was chosen with intention. Derived from the Latin novus — meaning new — and bound up in the literary idea of a story unfolding chapter by chapter, Novela reflects what Fatou believes with her whole heart: that every patient, no matter their diagnosis, their age, or their background, deserves a fresh beginning. A new chapter. Not just of medical recovery, but of life, dignity, and independence.
Columbus is one of the most beautifully diverse cities in the United States — a city of Somali families, West African communities, Appalachian neighbors, and a hundred other traditions living side by side. Fatou built Novela’s care team to reflect that richness. She has recruited nurses, therapists, and aides who speak multiple languages, who understand the unspoken dimensions of cultural care, and who approach each patient not as a diagnosis to be managed but as a whole human being to be honored.
Since its founding, Novela Home Health has maintained an unwavering commitment to clinical quality and regulatory excellence. Medicare certification, Ohio Department of Health licensure, and rigorous compliance standards are not checkboxes for Fatou — they are the floor, not the ceiling. Because families who trust Novela with their most vulnerable loved ones deserve nothing less than the very best. That is the promise. That is the new chapter.
Our Mission
To deliver exceptional, compassionate home health care to every patient in the Columbus community — honoring each person’s unique story, culture, and right to heal in the comfort of their home.
Our Vision
A Columbus where every patient — regardless of diagnosis, language, or background — has access to high-quality, person-centered home health care that opens the door to a new chapter of health and independence.
Our Values

Compassion
We see the whole person, not just the patient. Every visit begins with listening — truly listening — to understand not only the clinical picture but the human story behind it. Compassion is not a soft extra; it is the core of everything we do.

Excellence
Clinical quality and regulatory compliance are non-negotiable at Novela. We hold ourselves to the highest standards because our patients deserve nothing less. We pursue continuous improvement in every visit, every care plan, and every clinical outcome.

Inclusion
Columbus is diverse. Our care should be too. We celebrate the languages, cultures, and traditions that make our community extraordinary — and we build care teams that reflect and honor that diversity every single day.

Integrity
We do what we say, when we say it. Families trust us with their most vulnerable moments — that trust is sacred. Honesty, transparency, and accountability are not policies at Novela; they are habits.

Partnership
Great home health care is never delivered alone. We partner deeply with patients, families, physicians, discharge planners, and our community — because the best outcomes come from teams that communicate, collaborate, and genuinely care.
Why "Novela"?
A novela is a story — one longer than a short story, richer than a simple note, and filled with characters who grow and change across its pages. From the Latin novus — new — the word has always carried within it the promise of beginning. At Novela Home Health, we believe that is exactly what home health care should be: not the end of a hospital stay, but the opening of a new chapter. A chapter of recovery. A chapter of renewed independence. A chapter written in the comfort and warmth of your own home, surrounded by the people who love you. Every patient who becomes part of the Novela story brings with them a chapter worth honoring — and we are privileged to help write what comes next.
Meet the team behind your new chapter.
